On March 15th 2020, New York City was officially closed for business. All public venues had already ceased operation and the Mayor ordered public schools to close their doors due to the spread of the Covid-19 virus throughout the region. Only essential services were allowed to operate and residents were ordered to shelter-at-home.
The Coronavirus pandemic subsequently ravaged my neighborhood in Queens. Elmhurst and Jackson Heights became the “epicenter-of-the-epicenter” of the national outbreak.
My visual documentation of the pandemic's effects on Queens and NYC details residents attempting to find a way forward amidst a city on the verge of catastrophic health and financial crises.
